Blacksburg is a small town nestled between the Blue Ridge and Alleghany mountains. Home to the beautiful 25,000-student, 2600-acre campus Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute), Blacksburg offers outdoor recreation combined with many college-town amenities.

With a population of about 42,620, Blacksburg is Virginia’s largest town. It was established in 1798 and is a part of Montgomery County, which also includes Christiansburg and Radford, Virginia. The streets are lined with redbrick sidewalks, Victorian street lamps, boutique stores, art galleries, and a wide variety of unique restaurants. Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center is home to many high-tech jobs and companies including Honeywell, The National Weather Service, and MOOG. Due to Blacksburg’s proximity to Virginia Tech and Radford University, it’s an ideal location for developing high tech industry.

The Armory Art Gallery – The building was constructed during the Great Depression, and has served as a place for military training, community functions, and a public gymnasium in Blacksburg. Today, Virginia Tech's art gallery is hosted here. The building has a large mezzanine that provides a great space for art exhibitions.

Caboose Park – Also known as Municipal Park, Caboose Park is located on 35 acres and one of Blacksburg’s largest play areas. Generations have brought their children to play at the vast variety of amenities including soccer fields, lighted softball fields, tennis courts, roller hockey court, a skate park, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, swings, barbeque grills with picnic tables/shelter and gazebos.

Hahn Horticulture Garden- A 6-acre teaching and display garden that features water gardens, shade gardens, a meadow garden, and the Peggy Lee Hahn Garden Pavilion.

Lyric Theatre – This renovated historic theatre is located in the heart of downtown Blacksburg. It hosts both live and big screen events. It still has the classic two-level theatre seating with discounted movie rates weekly.

 

Shopping and Dining Options

Blacksburg offers a homely feel with many eclectic dining options and unique stores lined by red-brick sidewalks a nice stroll and for window shopping. It offers over 200 shops and restaurants.

The Blacksburg Farmer’s Market is another great attraction. With many local, and family-friendly stands it offers a selection of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. 


Schools, Health and Transportation

Blacksburg five public elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. It is also accompanied by several private schools, daycares, and preschools. Blacksburg High School has a brand new state-of-the-art building and is ranked among the top schools in the nation. It’s often renowned for soccer, Track, and Cross Country for being top competitors in the state. 

The Blacksburg Transit provides the town with award-winning public transportation at a reasonable rate. For all the sports fans out there, you can hop on a shuttle on game day for football and basketball games. The Transit also offers connection to the nearby town of Christiansburg.

Blacksburg  has 1 commercial airport (Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport) which has connections to major cities such as Charlotte, Orlando, New York, and Chicago. Richmond International and Charlotte Douglas are just a couple of hours drive.
