Christiansburg is a progressive small town on the western side of Virginia. It is nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, giving the residents and tourist alike a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. Originally the town was only 1.1 square miles hosting only rest stops and taverns along the Great Wilderness Road, which is present day U.S. Route 11. It was named in honor of the late Colonel William Christian, who was one of the original settlers in the region and a member of the Virginia Legislature. Today, Christiansburg is a part of the tri-city area of Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford Metro and the seat of Montgomery County.

The Huckleberry Trail – This paved, pet friendly trail connects the 2 towns of Christiansburg and Blacksburg. It welcomes both pedestrians and bikers to set out and take in the scenery through the wilderness. Benches are placed along the trail for rest and relaxation as well as markers every half mile. Parking is available on both ends.

Montgomery Museum & Lewis Miller Regional Art Center – The museum has beautiful art exhibits of both historic and contemporary ages. A nineteenth-century folk artist, Lewis Miller, who resided and produced work depicting Christiansburg is a main focus of the museum.

Christiansburg offers lots of unique local shopping and dining options from antique stores to quaint stores and eateries. Old Victorian lamps line the brick sidewalks to give the small town a warm inviting feeling. The shade trees and benches allow you to relax and take in everything that Christiansburg has to offer.

Let’s not forget about Christiansburg Farmers’ Market! The Farmers’ Market offers fresh local fruits, vegetables, baked goods and much more. It operates every Thursday 3-7PM from May – October.

There are 6 public schools in the Christiansburg area; 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 high school and 2 PK-12 schools. There schools are a part of the Montgomery County Public Schools.

The Smart Way Bus is a popular means of public transportation. The partnership between the towns of Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and Valley Metro makes transportation easy for locals and tourists alike. If you need to travel a little further, Christiansburg also has Megabuses.

Christiansburg has 1 commercial airport 35 minutes NE of Christiansburg: Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport. It has connections to major national and international airports. Richmond International and Charlotte Douglas are just a couple of hours drive.
